For All the World to See: Visual Culture and the Struggle for Civil Rights explores the historic role of visual culture in shaping, influencing, and transforming the fight for racial equality and justice in the United States from the late 1940s to the mid 1970s. This exhibition of 230 photographs, objects and clips from television and film looks at the extent to which the rise of the modern civil rights movement paralleled the birth of television and the popularity of picture magazines and other forms of visual mass media.

Guest curator Maurice Berger examines the role that visual culture played in the civil rights movement in changing prevailing ideas about race in America.

Album of the Day

The year this album came out I remember heading to Paris, then on to London and having this CD in constant rotation. It felt crisp, modern and progressive. It was self involved and French, but good French.(They’ve always had a knack for riveting dance grooves). I felt like a participant in some kind of cool underground lounge movement. Kid A was released a few months after and raised the stakes  but Tempovision has fond memories for me and it still gets prime ear space to this day.

Film of the Day

For some bizarre reason out of sight seemed to fly under the radar of movie goers when it was released but it contains some of the best performances by all involved. George Clooney has never put in a better performance than his portrayal of a petty bank thief. Don Cheadle is real gangster in his portrayal of a well… Gangster.  It’s J.Lo’s best performance by far. Ving Rhames steps it up a notch as a conflicted crook and Steve Van Zandt steals the show. Has Sodenbergh made a better movie since? Okay. Traffic. but with the exception of Traffic what has he done to top this? It’s worth a revisit.

  1. The Official – BOOM BOOM ROOM

Just last night i had the urge to go through some real old school joints, my earliest recollection of music… and the first few that came to mind was

    The Pharcyde – Drop
A Tribe Called Quest- Bonita Applebum
    Biggie Smalls – Juicy
    Oasis, Fugees… etc

the same joints i used to listen to when i would gatecrash your room as a real young one, 20 mins at a time, before i got kicked out… DUDE now i recall your room was THE OFFICIAL BOOM BOOM ROOM…lol, the official, for real dude i was having a ball.

Thanks, I’m gonna be on you to keep the pod casts coming.

    • the original boom boom room. I like that! You were the only family member with the good taste to listen and you’ve grown up to be a top producer! it’s funny you never know who’s listening. I’m honored to be labeled an influence.
      Now get out my room!!
      peace.
